In the late hours of May 6, 2026, the city of New Bedford was pierced by the sound of gunfire, a tragic event that would claim the life of 31-year-old Steven Coan. At approximately 11:30 p.m., a ShotSpotter alert drew New Bedford Police to the vicinity of Acushnet Avenue and Russell Street. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Coan inside his 2022 gray Honda Accord on Russell Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
