In Montgomery, Alabama, on the evening of Friday, March 27, 2026, a burst of gunfire shattered the night, leaving a local man dead. Kevin Pettus, a 39-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on Union Street in an incident that would quickly become a homicide investigation. The shooting occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m., and when authorities arrived, they found Pettus with a fatal gunshot wound.
Just days after the shooting, the Montgomery Police Department announced a significant
development in the case. On Monday, March 30, 2026, investigators arrested 34-year-old Rodriqus Pervise in connection with the death of Kevin Pettus. Pervise was taken into custody and formally charged with murder. While an arrest was made, a motive for the deadly shooting was not immediately released to the public.
Following his arrest, Rodriqus Pervise was confined to the Montgomery County Jail. Funeral services for Kevin Pettus were scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the Chapel of Phillips-Riley Funeral Home, with his burial to follow in Brassell Cemetery.
