On New Year's Day in 2015, the city of Montgomery, Alabama, marked its first homicide of the year with the shooting death of 42-year-old Preston Fort. A Black male and a resident of Montgomery, Fort was fatally wounded in an incident that prompted an investigation by local authorities.
