On the afternoon of April 10, 2026, Darian Ragland, a 39-year-old man from Brandywine, was fatally shot in what has been described as a road rage incident in Temple Hills, Maryland. Ragland was reportedly on his way to pick up his 7-year-old daughter from after-school care at the time of the altercation.
The tragic chain of events began around 4:30 p.m. in the 4700 block of Branch Avenue. According to charging documents, the incident was precipitated by a failure to merge in traffic.
As the two vehicles continued along Branch Avenue, their drivers appeared to be pacing each other. The conflict escalated when the other driver, later identified as 33-year-old Polo Shaw of Upper Marlboro, allegedly fired multiple shots into Ragland's vehicle, striking him. Ragland's car then veered across the median and struck a barrier wall. When police arrived, they found him inside his car with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit quickly began working to identify a suspect. Within days, they publicly offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case. Through various investigative techniques, including the use of a license plate reader that captured Shaw's vehicle about five miles from the scene shortly after the shooting, and cellphone data placing him in the area, detectives identified Polo Shaw as the suspect. It was determined that Shaw and Ragland did not know each other prior to the incident.
With the assistance of the department's Emergency Services Team, Polo Shaw was taken into custody. He has been charged with first and second-degree murder and related offenses. Shaw is currently being held at the Department of Corrections without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 18. The investigation is ongoing.
