In the early hours of March 27, 2026, the quiet of a Trenton, New Jersey neighborhood was shattered by a single gunshot. Police were dispatched to the area of Beatty Street and Freudenmacher Alley around 1 a.m. after a ShotSpotter alert. There, they discovered 20-year-old Wilber Quib-Cuc suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Wilber Quib-Cuc succumbed to his injuries and passed away on March 28, 2026.
The investigation into the shooting was led by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department's Shooting Response Team. The day after the incident, detectives returned to the scene to canvass the area for additional evidence. While there, they observed a man who matched the description of the suspect.
The man, identified as 40-year-old Darnell Housley of Trenton, was detained by the investigators. Upon his detention, Housley was found to be in possession of a 9mm handgun and suspected heroin. He was initially arrested and charged with weapons and narcotics offenses. Following further investigation into the death of Wilber Quib-Cuc, Darnell Housley was additionally charged with murder and further weapons offenses. The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office has filed a motion to detain Housley pending his trial.
