In the Hickory Hill neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, a young Black man named Kameron Cantrell, 21, lost his life to gun violence on the evening of Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The tragic event unfolded just before 7 p.m. when the Memphis Police Department received a call about a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 6100 block of Ridgewyck Drive. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a man who had been shot.
Unfortunately, Kameron succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation pointed to three male suspects who were seen fleeing the area eastbound on Knight Arnold Road, all of them clad in black clothing. As the Memphis Police Department delved deeper into the case, they uncovered video footage from the vicinity of the crime scene which revealed three individuals who were identified as persons of interest in what authorities believe was an aggravated robbery that turned fatal. The investigation is still active as they continue to search for the two other suspects involved in the incident.
A break in the case came on Saturday, April 4, 2026, when police located and arrested one of the suspects. Tristan Smith, 18, was taken into custody in the 3000 block of Kirby Downs Cove without incident. Authorities identified him as the individual in the video footage wearing a black hoodie with the word "Saint" on it. Smith is now facing several serious charges, including First-Degree Murder in the Perpetration of Aggravated Robbery, Tampering with or Fabricating Evidence, and Unlawful Carrying or Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Felony. While one suspect is in custody, the Memphis Police Department continues its efforts to identify and apprehend the two remaining individuals responsible for Kameron Cantrell's death, urging anyone with information to come forward.
