In Memphis, Tennessee, on the evening of April 30, 2024, a heated argument between roommates over a refusal to move out escalated into a fatal encounter. Martavion S. Carmichael, a 21-year-old Black male, was shot and killed by his 19-year-old roommate, Jaquavion Walker. The incident occurred in The Heights neighborhood, in the 3200 block of Hardin Avenue, where Memphis Police responded to a shooting call at approximately 7:44 p.m. and found Carmichael deceased at the scene from gunshot wounds.
