The incident unfolded on February 27, 2023, near the intersection of West Essex and Arkansas Street in South Memphis, where gunfire erupted, shattering the neighborhood's calm. When police arrived, they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims. Cory Blocker and another young man, 20-year-old Christopher M.
Johnson, were found with fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence of that day extended beyond the two fatalities. Three other individuals were also wounded in the shooting. Two 17-year-olds and a 19-year-old were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
