In a tragic series of events that unfolded on a Sunday morning, Fares Shihab, an 18-year-old male, was killed in Memphis, Tennessee. His life was cut short on February 11, 2024, during what authorities have described as a violent crime spree that gripped the city.
The incident that led to Shihab's death occurred at a smoke and vape shop off East Shelby Drive.
According to police reports and surveillance footage, a man, later identified as Courdarion Craft, was seen pacing outside the business with a long gun. Inside the shop, the encounter turned fatal, and Shihab was shot and killed. This act was reportedly part of a larger chain of violent crimes committed by the suspect on the same day.
Prior to the fatal shooting, the suspect is alleged to have been involved in a carjacking less than half a mile away in a church parking lot. A woman, who was in her car with her two children, reported that a man, believed to be Craft, held her at gunpoint and demanded her vehicle. The woman, who had already dialed 911 after noticing the man's suspicious behavior, managed to escape with her children as he took the car.
Following the shooting of Fares Shihab, the crime spree allegedly continued into southeast Memphis. The suspect is accused of shooting three other people and a dog, as well as robbing a hair styling business. The wave of violence triggered a citywide manhunt for the person responsible.
Law enforcement officials were able to identify and apprehend a suspect. Courdarion Craft was taken into custody in connection with the crime spree, including the death of Fares Shihab. Following his arrest, Craft was held in jail, and prosecutors recommended a high bond. The case is now proceeding through the criminal justice system.
