On a summer afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 18-year-old D’Aaron Isaiah Gordon was tragically cut short. On July 23, 2023, around 2 p.m., police responded to a shooting at a residence on McNeil Street. They found Gordon on the front porch, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The male victim’s death spurred an investigation that would slowly unravel the events of that fatal day.
The Memphis Police Department released surveillance footage that captured the chaotic moments of the shooting. The video showed three individuals fleeing down a sidewalk while firing weapons toward Gordon. This crucial piece of evidence became a focal point for detectives as they worked to identify those responsible for the young man's death. The investigation progressed, and with the help of community tips, investigators began to close in on the suspects.
More than a year after the incident, significant developments brought the case forward. In August 2023, a suspect identified as Justin Blue, who was 18 at the time, was arrested. He was later indicted on first-degree murder charges. According to a police affidavit, Blue admitted to his involvement in the shooting. The following year, on August 1, 2024, a grand jury indicted 19-year-old Tyler Jones on a charge of first-degree murder. The U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force took up the search for Jones, locating and arresting him without incident at a Memphis home on August 21, 2024. Both Jones and Blue are being held in the Shelby County Jail.
