In the spring of 2017, the life of 19-year-old Kelton Guy was tragically cut short on the streets of South Memphis, Tennessee. On the evening of April 20th, police responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Vaal Avenue and Kansas Street, where they discovered Guy suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate medical attention he received, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of another teenager, Joe'Von
Henderson. At the time of the incident, Henderson was 17 years old. According to the arrest affidavit, an argument between the two young men escalated, culminating in Henderson admitting to fatally shooting Guy.
Following his arrest, Henderson, who was 18 by then, faced a charge of second-degree murder. After being held in juvenile court, he was transferred to the Shelby County Jail. A judge set his bond at $150,000 as the legal proceedings against him began, leaving a community to grapple with the senseless violence that claimed a young life.
