In the early morning hours of Monday, August 21, 2023, tragedy struck a home in the Hickory Hill area of Memphis, Tennessee. Nineteen-year-old Jacquez Deshun Groves was asleep in his residence on the 3400 block of Kirby Parkway when the sound of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn quiet at approximately 4:15 a.m. An unknown vehicle had pulled up to the house, and its occupants opened fire, sending a volley of bullets into the dwelling.
The shots fatally wounded Groves as he slept, bringing a
violent and unexpected end to the young man's life. When Memphis Police responded to the scene, they found Groves had succumbed to his injuries. The male victim's sudden death left his family and the community seeking answers and justice.
In the wake of the shooting, the Memphis Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Authorities have not yet identified any suspects in the case and have not made any arrests. The make and model of the vehicle used by the perpetrators remain unknown. To aid in their investigation, police released surveillance footage showing the moments when the shots were fired into Groves's home. A reward of $4,000 has been offered by Crime Stoppers for any information that leads to an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to appeal to the public for assistance in identifying those responsible for Jacquez Deshun Groves's death.
