In the quiet community of Flowery Branch, Georgia, the life of 30-year-old Matthew Clayton Arthurs was cut short in a tragic and violent incident. On the morning of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Matthew’s father discovered him unresponsive on a sofa in the basement of their home on Rose Heights Drive. Authorities were called to the residence shortly after 8:30 a.m. and found that Matthew had been fatally shot.
Investigators believe the shooting occurred late on Monday night, February 9, 2026, and Matthew succumbed to his injuries sometime before he was found.
The investigation into the death of Matthew, who worked as an A.V. Technician for various production companies, quickly focused on his older brother, 36-year-old Cristofer Daniel Arthurs, who lived at the home with Matthew and their parents. Cristofer was present at the residence when deputies arrived and was taken to the Hall County Sheriff's Office headquarters for questioning. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Following the questioning, he was arrested in connection with his brother's death.
Cristofer Daniel Arthurs has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. While an arrest has been made, a motive for the shooting has not been released by the authorities. Matthew's body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death remains ongoing.
Matthew was born in Atlanta on November 17, 1995, and is survived by his parents, a twin sister, and his brother, Cristofer. In the wake of his death, friends of Matthew organized a GoFundMe campaign to help his family with funeral expenses. A celebration of his life was planned for early March.
