In the summer of 2021, a promising young man's life was cut short in a senseless act of violence at a gas station in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Keng Wilson, a 20-year-old male, was a creative soul, known for his talent in poetry and his aspirations of becoming a vegan chef. He was a prodigy who had graduated from high school at the young age of 16. Described by his mother as a beloved son and a father figure to his siblings, his death left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
On the evening of July 8, 2021, Wilson pulled into a gas station on Rockbridge Road. Surveillance footage from that night captured the events that followed. Wilson was at his vehicle when he was approached by Joshua Ontario Simpson, and an argument ensued. As the two exchanged words, a gold SUV arrived at the scene. The driver of the SUV distracted Wilson, allowing Simpson to draw a firearm and position himself to block Wilson's car.
The verbal altercation quickly escalated into a fatal shooting. Simpson, along with two other men, opened fire on Wilson, striking him multiple times. The assailants then fled the scene, leaving Wilson gravely wounded. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The brazen attack, captured on surveillance video, set off a lengthy investigation to bring the responsible parties to justice.
The investigation led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Joshua Ontario Simpson was apprehended in California on August 2, 2021. The second suspect, Jeremy Collins, was identified through a tip to the District Attorney's office and was taken into custody in Alabama on August 22, 2023. Both men faced a jury for their roles in Wilson's death.
In November 2025, a jury found Jeremy Collins guilty of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Joshua Ontario Simpson was convicted of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a First Offender Probationer, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. Collins was subsequently sentenced to life in prison plus five years, while Simpson received a sentence of 25 years, with 15 to be served in custody.
A peculiar twist in the legal proceedings occurred when Jeremy Collins, who had been granted bond against the state's recommendation, failed to appear in court during his trial. He was ultimately convicted and sentenced in absentia. He was later apprehended in Alabama in January 2026 after an altercation with law enforcement and extradited back to Georgia to serve his sentence. A third suspect involved in the shooting remains unidentified, and authorities have publicly sought information to lead to his capture.
