In the early hours of Tuesday, February 17, 2026, a burst of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn quiet inside a three-story apartment building on Euclid Avenue in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn. When the chaos subsided, 24-year-old Jarell Sutton lay grievously wounded, having been shot in the chest. Emergency responders rushed him to Brookdale University Hospital, but his life could not be saved.
Another 24-year-old man was also struck by the gunfire, sustaining a wound to his
foot. He was taken by private means to the same hospital and was listed in stable condition. The relationship between the two victims has not been publicly disclosed by authorities.
Police from the 75th Precinct responded to the scene at approximately 12:10 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about the shooting. Investigators recovered a single shell casing and a bullet from the lobby of the apartment building, indicating the violent encounter took place within the building's entrance.
As of now, the police have not identified a suspect or a motive for the shooting. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with authorities appealing to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. No arrests have been made in connection with the death of Jarell Sutton.
