In the evening chill of a November day in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn, 35-year-old Julien Arnold’s life was abruptly ended. On November 7, 2022, at approximately 5:18 p.m., the sound of a gunshot pierced the air on Ridgewood Avenue. Responding to a 911 call, officers from the 75th Precinct arrived at the scene to find Arnold with a fatal gunshot wound to his back in front of his home.
Emergency medical services rushed him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The immediate aftermath of the shooting left a community in shock and a family engulfed in grief. An unidentified man, clad in light-colored clothing, was seen fleeing the scene. The investigation by the New York Police Department later revealed that the suspect had escaped in a black Chevrolet Equinox. In an effort to generate leads, the police released an image of the vehicle to the public, hoping someone would come forward with information that could lead to the killer. Despite these efforts, the motive for the shooting remains unknown, and the individual responsible has yet to be brought to justice.

In a poignant tribute to a life taken too soon, a section of Ridgewood Avenue was co-named “Julien ‘Big Ju’ Arnold Way” in November 2023.
