On a Sunday evening in Brooklyn, New York, the life of 28-year-old Eryk Ford, a Black male, was cut short by gunfire. On November 8, 2020, in the Crown Heights neighborhood, Ford was shot multiple times, sustaining wounds to his torso and legs near the intersection of Ralph Avenue and Lincoln Place. Police responded to a 911 call around 7:30 p.m. and found Ford grievously injured.
He was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, but the medical staff could not save him, and he was pronounced dead.
The New York Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives began canvassing the area for evidence and witnesses. Their efforts soon yielded a significant lead in the form of surveillance footage that captured a person of interest in the vicinity of the crime scene shortly before the shooting occurred. At the time of his death, Eryk Ford had been out on parole, having been released from prison in 2019. He had been convicted in 2016 of manslaughter for the 2012 death of his six-week-old daughter.
