In the late afternoon hours of December 30, 2025, a dispute between two brothers in a parking lot in Hammond, Louisiana, escalated into a fatal tragedy. Dalvis Hart, a 48-year-old man, was shot and killed during an argument with his older brother. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the 11000 block of Highway 190.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a fight between two men, which was quickly followed by a second call
indicating a shooting had occurred. Upon their arrival, they discovered Dalvis Hart with a gunshot wound and not breathing. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The investigation that followed revealed that the altercation was with his brother, 58-year-old Vincent Hart of Independence.
Authorities learned that Vincent Hart was an employee at the location where the argument and subsequent shooting took place. Dalvis Hart had reportedly arrived at the location for reasons that remain unclear, leading to the confrontation between the two brothers.
In the wake of the shooting, Vincent Hart was arrested and booked on one count of second-degree murder. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker commented on the tragic nature of the event, urging the community to "choose words over weapons when disagreeing with others" and asked for prayers for the family dealing with an "unimaginable heartbreak especially at the end of the year.” Funeral services for Dalvis Hart were scheduled for January 17, 2026, at the Sweet Home Baptist Church in Albany, Louisiana.
