In the early morning hours of May 12, 2025, a domestic dispute in Hammond, Louisiana, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 23-year-old Bradley Blunt. The incident unfolded around 2:48 a.m. in the parking lot of The Soap Opera laundromat on North Morrison Boulevard. Blunt was accompanying a 22-year-old woman, Raleign Honor, who had earlier contacted the Hammond Police Department for assistance in retrieving her belongings from her ex-boyfriend's home.
Fearing for her safety, police had advised her to pull over instead of proceeding to the residence.
While Blunt and Honor were parked, with two toddlers in the backseat of their vehicle, the ex-boyfriend, identified as 23-year-old Janvourian Franklin, arrived at the location, driven by his sister, Demetriane Anderson. An exchange of words between Franklin and Blunt quickly turned violent when Franklin allegedly produced two firearms and opened fire. Blunt was struck multiple times and was later pronounced dead at North Oaks Medical Center. Honor and one of the two-year-old children were also wounded in the shooting but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the shooting, the vehicle carrying the victims lost control and crashed into the front of the laundromat. Franklin also sustained a gunshot wound and sought treatment at the same hospital where the victims were taken. Upon his arrival, he was taken into custody by law enforcement.
Authorities arrested Janvourian Franklin and charged him with one count of first-degree murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder, and illegal discharge of a firearm. His sister, 20-year-old Demetriane Anderson, was also arrested and charged with one count of principal to first-degree murder and three counts of principal to attempted first-degree murder for her alleged role in driving her brother to the scene. The Hammond Police Department's investigation into the deadly encounter is ongoing.
