On a late Saturday night in Hammond, Louisiana, a sequence of events unfolded that would end in the death of 48-year-old Timothy Douglas of Ponchatoula. Around 11:15 p.m. on December 21, 2024, a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to pull over a Saturn Vue that had been reported stolen, with Douglas behind the wheel. Rather than stopping, Douglas fled, initiating a pursuit that concluded at an apartment complex located off South Baptist Road.

Douglas exited and attempted to escape on foot. The pursuing deputy deployed a Taser to end the foot chase. According to the Louisiana State Police, a physical altercation ensued as the deputy tried to take Douglas into custody. State Police reported that Douglas resisted arrest, and during the struggle, the deputy discharged his service weapon, striking Douglas. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Authorities stated that a firearm was found in Douglas's possession at the scene. No deputies were injured during the incident.
