In the early morning hours of July 5, 2019, the life of 41-year-old Michael Cuccia, a male from Hammond, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded just before 1 a.m. in the parking lot of the Nada Food Mart on East University Avenue. Hammond Police were called to the scene at approximately 12:40 a.m., where they discovered Cuccia suffering from severe gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate response and efforts of emergency medical personnel, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them shortly after their arrival.
The Hammond Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into Cuccia's death. Their efforts to identify and capture the person responsible led them to a suspect within days. On July 8, 2019, authorities arrested 37-year-old Timmothy Berry of Hammond in connection with the fatal shooting. Berry was subsequently charged with first-degree murder.
