In the late hours of a Friday night in Hammond, Louisiana, a physical altercation escalated into a fatal incident, claiming the life of 19-year-old Adrius 'AJ' Warren. The male teenager was involved in a dispute on Rogers Road shortly before midnight on September 20, 2019. During the confrontation, Warren was reportedly punching 22-year-old Tyrius Young.
According to Young's account to law enforcement, he was armed with a handgun that accidentally discharged while he was being struck by
Warren. The single gunshot struck Warren in the chest. The chaotic scene also resulted in Young's mother, who was present during the altercation, being accidentally shot in the hip by the same gunfire.
Following the shooting, both Adrius Warren and Young's mother were transported by friends or family members to North Oaks Medical Center. While deputies were already at the hospital on a separate detail, they encountered the two gunshot victims in the emergency room. Despite being rushed into surgery, Warren succumbed to his injuries and passed away shortly after 1:00 a.m. on September 21, 2019. Young's mother received treatment for her injury and was subsequently released.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office investigated the incident, leading to the arrest of Tyrius Young. He was booked on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of Adrius Warren.
