Jerry Wayne McBride Sr., a 63-year-old male from Vernon, Texas, was tragically killed on May 20, 2017. He was the owner and operator of the Cowboys Club in Vernon. two suspects: Robert Thomas III and Ronald Ray Fanner. Initially, another individual, Charles Harvey Bryant, was identified by an eyewitness as the perpetrator. However, further evidence, including phone records and forensic analysis, pointed to Thomas as the primary suspect. Bryant was later cleared of the charges, and the focus of the investigation shifted to Thomas and Fanner.
In October 2021, Robert Thomas III was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The trial revealed that Thomas had committed the crime with the help of Fanner, who was also charged but remained in custody awaiting trial. The prosecution presented overwhelming evidence, including eyewitness testimony and forensic evidence, which linked Thomas to the crime.
