In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 11, 2023, the life of 23-year-old Tykerstien Ty Lusk was tragically cut short. Lusk, a male resident of Springfield, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest outside the Living Room nightclub located on Nashville Avenue in Hammond, Louisiana. The discovery was made shortly after midnight, casting a somber shadow over the weekend.
Responding to the incident, Hammond police officers found Lusk lying in a ditch.
The initial investigation into the shooting pointed to a suspect, and later that same Sunday morning, 19-year-old Malik Andrews of Hammond was arrested in connection with the death. Andrews was subsequently booked into jail on charges of first-degree homicide and illegal discharge of a firearm, based on the account of a witness who identified him as being involved.
However, the legal proceedings against Andrews took an unexpected turn. After more than three months in jail, the charges against him were dropped, and he was released in September 2023. The investigation into the death of Tykerstien Lusk remains ongoing, and authorities have continued to ask for anyone with information regarding the case to come forward to assist in bringing closure to the unresolved circumstances of his death.
