In a tragic and violent home invasion in Hammond, Louisiana, 33-year-old Donte Perry, a male tattoo artist, was shot and killed on the night of September 12, 2022. The incident unfolded at his apartment on Rufus Bankston Road where he was with his three children.
That evening, three to four armed and masked men forced their way into Perry's home, reportedly demanding drugs and money. During the ensuing chaos, Perry was shot multiple times and died at the scene.
His 12-year-old daughter was also shot numerous times in what investigators believe was an attempt to eliminate a witness. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and ultimately survived her injuries after undergoing several surgeries. Perry’s two younger children, aged seven and three, were physically unharmed. One of the intruders reportedly put a gun to the head of the seven-year-old, but the weapon misfired.
The investigation led by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office resulted in the arrest of three suspects: Omarion Hookfin, then 21, Avery Guidry, 18, and Tra'von Johnson, 19. All three were charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, and aggravated kidnapping.
In December 2025, Omarion Hookfin was convicted of the first-degree murder of Donte Perry and the attempted murder of his daughter. Following his conviction, he was expected to receive a mandatory life sentence for the murder and an additional sentence for the attempted murder. It was also noted that Hookfin, along with Guidry and Johnson, had escaped from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in May 2024 but were recaptured days later. Hookfin is also awaiting trial for the escape. The legal proceedings for Avery Guidry and Tra'von Johnson are still pending.
