In the early morning hours of November 30, 2025, a night out at The Wearhouse Night Club in Silsbee, Texas, took a tragic turn, ending in the death of 36-year-old Henry Carey Jr. from Kountze. What began as a minor vehicle accident in the nightclub's parking lot escalated into a fatal confrontation, leaving another man, 29-year-old Khalil Ahmadrian Gooch, also deceased from gunshot wounds. The two men were discovered near the road on Fresenius Road at approximately 2:30 a.m. and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The series of events leading to the shooting started after Henry Carey Jr.'s truck reportedly struck a vehicle belonging to Kenny Ray Johnson, 21, of Baytown. Johnson's vehicle had already been involved in a separate minor accident with a female driver. Following the second collision, Johnson and his companion, 22-year-old Deontray Deshunn Carey Jr. of Beaumont, allegedly approached Henry Carey Jr. to demand money instead of involving law enforcement. An altercation ensued between the men, which quickly spiraled into violence.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Deontray Carey Jr. and Kenny Ray Johnson fled the scene. They were later located and apprehended by Lumberton police on unrelated charges. After further investigation into the double homicide, both men were charged with two counts of murder. According to a probable cause affidavit, Johnson admitted to retrieving a firearm and shooting, stating he fired three shots while Deontray Carey Jr. fired about six.

Deontray Carey Jr. and Kenny Ray Johnson were booked into the Hardin County jail, with their bonds set at $2 million each. Deontray Carey Jr. faced an additional charge for possession of a stolen firearm, which carried a $10,000 bond. The Hardin County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Silsbee and Lumberton police departments, continued to investigate the tragic incident. An autopsy for both Henry Carey Jr. and Khalil Ahmadrian Gooch was ordered by the Justice of the Peace.
