In the early morning hours of November 30, 2025, a dispute that began over a minor vehicle accident outside a Silsbee, Texas nightclub escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the lives of two men, including 29-year-old Khalil Ahmadrian Gooch of Kountze. The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of Fresenius Road. Gooch, along with 36-year-old Henry Carey Jr., also from Kountze, were discovered deceased at the scene with gunshot wounds.
Authorities from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office determined that Gooch and Carey Jr. had been at a nightclub on Fresenius Road, as had the two men who would later be charged with their murders. As the individuals were leaving the parking area, a minor car crash occurred, leading to a heated altercation. According to reports, the suspects, Deontray Deshunn Carey Jr., 22, of Beaumont, and Kenny Ray Johnson, 21, of Baytown, demanded money from Henry Carey Jr. following the accident, instead of involving law enforcement.
The confrontation quickly turned violent. Johnson alleged that one of the victims attempted to punch him, and that Deontray Carey was also struck. Following this, Johnson admitted to retrieving a firearm and shooting approximately three times, while he claimed Deontray Carey fired about six shots. Both Khalil Gooch and Henry Carey Jr. were pronounced dead at the scene.
Deontray Carey Jr. and Kenny Ray Johnson fled the location after the shooting but were soon apprehended by Lumberton Police officers during a traffic stop on unrelated charges. After further investigation by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, both men were charged with two counts of first-degree murder. They were subsequently booked into the Hardin County Jail. A judge set their bonds at $2 million each, with an additional $10,000 bond for Deontray Carey Jr. on a charge of possession of a stolen firearm. Autopsies were ordered for both Gooch and Henry Carey Jr.
