On the evening of Wednesday, December 17, 2025, a violent incident unfolded in the Gravois Park neighborhood of Saint Louis, Missouri, claiming the life of a young teenager. Samuel Williams Jr., a 14-year-old boy known affectionately as "Sam" by his loved ones, was walking near the intersection of Oregon Avenue and Miami Street around 5:50 p.m. He had just left a convenience store and was accompanied by his brother and a friend when gunfire erupted in the residential area.
Neighbors reported hearing more than a dozen gunshots ring out, sending the group of youths scrambling for safety.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the young teen was struck by the gunfire during the chaotic event. Although injured, he reportedly attempted to seek shelter and was located by responding officers either outside or near a residence in the 3600 block of Oregon Avenue. Emergency medical services rushed him to a local hospital with critical injuries, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Homicide detectives immediately responded to the scene, canvassing the area with flashlights and collecting evidence from the street and a nearby two-story home.
As of the days following the shooting, no arrests had been reported in connection with the homicide. Investigators have focused their search on a specific vehicle of interest believed to be involved in the drive-by style attack. Police described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored sedan that had no license plates and visible ballistic damage. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact the Homicide Division or CrimeStoppers, hoping to identify the individuals responsible for the death of the eighth grader, who was remembered by his godmother and community as a respectful child who loved football, video games, and spending time with his family.
