A tragic sequence of events unfolded in southwest Louisville on the afternoon of Saturday, December 20, 2025, resulting in the death of 20-year-old African American Milton Richie. Police officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were dispatched to the 3000 block of Fordhaven Road near the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood around 4:14 p.m. following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders discovered Richie suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside of a vehicle that had come to a rest in a ditch. Despite immediate attempts by emergency medical services to render life-saving aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Homicide Unit quickly began piecing together the circumstances surrounding the violence, learning from witnesses that a large crowd had been present in the area when the gunfire erupted. Richie, who was known in the community as a dedicated staff member of the annual Dirt Bowl basketball tournament at Shawnee Park, had been driving when he was targeted. The coroner’s office later confirmed that he died from the gunshot injuries he sustained during the attack.
By the following Monday, detectives had made a significant breakthrough in the case. Police arrested a 15-year-old girl in connection with the homicide. Due to her status as a minor, authorities did not release her identity, but she was formally charged with complicity to murder and complicity to robbery. Law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation remained active as they urged anyone with additional information or surveillance footage to come forward to assist in the ongoing legal process.
