In the summer of 2019, a burst of gunfire in the Jacobs neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, tragically cut short the life of 17-year-old Jerome A. Miles, Jr. The incident, which unfolded on June 23rd, also claimed the life of 17-year-old Robindion O'Bryant and left a third individual wounded. Jerome, a Black male, was discovered in an alley off Parthenia Drive and was rushed to University Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the deadly
shooting led authorities a few blocks away to Wheeler Avenue, where O'Bryant was found shot inside a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. While the initial hours and days after the shooting were filled with uncertainty, the Louisville Metro Police Department worked diligently to piece together the events of that violent night.
Three weeks after the tragic deaths of the two teenagers, a significant development occurred in the case. Eighteen-year-old Shawn Hollingsworth was taken into custody in connection with the shootings. Hollingsworth was subsequently charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Jerome A. Miles, Jr. and Robindion O'Bryant, as well as one count of first-degree assault for the injuries sustained by the third victim. The arrest brought a measure of relief to the grieving families, who now faced the long road of legal proceedings.
