In the early evening of November 6, 2025, the life of 22-year-old Antonio Lamar Jewell of Winterville, Georgia, was tragically cut short. Responding to a call about a person down, Athens-Clarke County police discovered Jewell unresponsive on a sidewalk in the 100 block of Madison Avenue. Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of emergency medical services and the local fire department, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into his death would soon reveal a story of an armed robbery that took a violent and deadly turn.
As detectives from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department delved into the circumstances surrounding Jewell's death, they determined that he had been the victim of an attempted armed robbery. The investigation quickly led to the identification of several suspects. Initially, three Athens men were taken into custody: 23-year-old Samtavious Clark, 18-year-old Jeremiah Gresham, and 18-year-old Dion Nesbitt. Each of these individuals faced a string of serious charges, including murder, malice murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and involvement in criminal street gang activity.
The investigation did not conclude with the initial arrests. As law enforcement continued to piece together the events of that fatal night, three more suspects were identified and apprehended. On November 24, police arrested 19-year-old Dermetris Allen and 18-year-old Christian Hull, both residents of Athens. The following day, 19-year-old Chedric Stroud, also from Athens, was taken into custody. These three additional suspects faced the same severe charges as the first group: murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and criminal street gang charges, bringing the total number of individuals charged in connection with Antonio Jewell's death to six. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to seek justice for Jewell and his family.
