A quiet Sunday evening in Fort Payne, Alabama, was shattered by gunfire on November 9, 2025, leading to the tragic deaths of 27-year-old female Alisha Nichole Keller and 24-year-old Logan Cordale Brown. The two were found with gunshot wounds in the kitchen of an apartment at the Fort Payne Housing Authority complex. First responders were called to the scene around 5:59 p.m.
after reports of shots fired, but despite their efforts, both Keller and Brown were pronounced dead.
The investigation quickly identified Jacob Eugene Mitchum, a 27-year-old from Oxford, as the primary suspect. Authorities received information that Mitchum was heading back to Oxford after the shooting. A coordinated effort between the Fort Payne Police Department, the Oxford Police Department, the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, and the East Metro Area Crime Center led to Mitchum's swift and peaceful arrest. He was then transported back to Fort Payne to face charges.
Mitchum has been charged with capital murder for the deaths of two or more persons and is being held without bond at the DeKalb County Detention Center. Family members of the victims have stated that Mitchum is Keller's ex-boyfriend and that the former couple had two children together. It was reported that on the day of the killings, Keller had gone to the Oxford Police Station to visit her children with Mitchum, which was a regular occurrence. An argument allegedly broke out, during which Mitchum threatened to kill both Keller and Brown. The incident has been described as originating in another county, and the Fort Payne Police Department had no prior reports of threats concerning the individuals involved. Authorities also clarified that no children were present at the residence at the time of the shooting.
