In the autumn of 2025, a welfare check requested on a Sunday evening led to a grim discovery in a Northeast Washington, D.C. residence. On October 5th, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District entered a home in the 4000 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast, to find 33-year-old Maurisha Singletary fatally shot. Responding DC Fire and EMS personnel found no signs of life and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police immediately began a homicide investigation, offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
The investigation into the murder of the mother of two young daughters quickly focused on a suspect. Law enforcement identified 45-year-old Marco Moore as the individual wanted for Singletary's murder. Tragically, the events leading up to Singletary's death revealed a history of domestic violence. Just two weeks prior to her murder, Moore had been arrested for threatening to kill her. A judge had released him from jail with the condition that he stay away from Singletary.
The pursuit of justice for Maurisha Singletary came to a violent end on the morning of October 9, 2025. Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located Moore in an apartment building in the 1400 block of Girard Street, Northwest, and attempted to execute an arrest warrant for first-degree murder. As the task force members entered the apartment, an exchange of gunfire occurred. During the confrontation, Moore was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. No members of the task force were injured in the incident. A firearm belonging to the suspect was recovered from the apartment.
