On a late Sunday evening in Wyandanch, New York, the promising future of 18-year-old Malik Stoddart was tragically cut short. A 19-year-old companion was also wounded in the shooting but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Stoddart was a recent graduate of Wyandanch High School, where he was a respected athlete on the track and football teams. Those who knew him described him as a positive and well-loved individual with a bright future ahead of him. At the time of his death, he was the father of a one-month-old son.

Detectives explored the possibility that the shots were fired from a passing vehicle and considered whether Stoddart was the intended target.
