On a late Saturday afternoon in Wyandanch, New York, 32-year-old Vernon Brown was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car with a friend on South 31st Street. It was February 7, 2015, and the ordinary day was about to take a tragic turn. As they sat there, a male suspect approached the vehicle on a bicycle and, without warning, fired a single shot into the car, striking Brown. The gunman quickly fled the scene on his bicycle, disappearing into the neighborhood.
