In the early morning hours of July 5, 2025, the life of Daquane 'Dream' Johnson, a 28-year-old Black transgender woman, was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. Just before 1 a.m., officers on patrol were flagged down in the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast, where they found Johnson unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported her to a local hospital, but her injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead.
