On an autumn evening in the Bronx, a life was tragically cut short in what appears to be a devastating case of mistaken identity. Fareed Adeyi, a 26-year-old male, was fatally shot on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. at 3254 White Plains Road in the Williamsbridge section of the borough. Responding to a 911 call about an assault, police officers arrived to find Adeyi with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. He was rushed by emergency services to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a tragic error. Authorities believe Adeyi was not the intended target. The motive appears to be linked to a prior incident in August involving a man named Devonte Moore. Moore had been critically wounded in a previous shooting and the October attack was allegedly an act of retaliation. Unbeknownst to him, Adeyi had recently purchased a car from the individual believed to be the intended target of the retaliation. On the evening of his death, Adeyi was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, driving a car that the assailants mistakenly associated with their actual target.
Following an investigation by the New York City Police Department, three suspects were apprehended in connection with Fareed Adeyi's death. The suspects are 64-year-old Norman Moore, his 24-year-old son Devonte Moore, and an unnamed 16-year-old male. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the teenager exiting a vehicle and firing multiple shots into the car Adeyi was in. Court documents indicate that Norman Moore is accused of driving his son and the teenager to the location of the shooting. All three individuals face serious charges, including murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
