In the spring of 2023, the life of 20-year-old Xavier Simmons was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting at Atlanta's Westside Park. On the evening of April 19, police responded to a call and discovered Simmons' body underneath a pavilion. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was one of three homicides that occurred within a three-mile radius in northwest Atlanta over a short period, though investigators did not state if they believed the cases were
connected.
Following the shooting, the Atlanta Police Department quickly identified 21-year-old Kameron Deal as a suspect in Simmons' death. A few days later, officers located Deal. After a brief foot chase, during which he reportedly dropped a backpack containing a handgun, Deal was taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the Fulton County Jail.
Kameron Deal was charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. In May 2024, Deal accepted a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to the charges against him for his role in the death of Xavier Simmons. Following his guilty plea, Deal was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
