In the early morning hours of May 9, 2021, the life of 32-year-old Allen Steven Urena was tragically cut short in the Longwood section of the Bronx. A father of two young boys, Urena was fatally shot in the chest following a reported argument. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:38 a.m. inside a building on Westchester Avenue near Faile Street.
Surveillance footage from the scene captured the brutal moments leading up to the shooting.
The video shows another man pistol-whipping Urena before opening fire. First responders arrived to find Urena with a gunshot wound and transported him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead. At the time of his death, Urena was studying to become an electrician at the Lincoln Technical Institute in New Jersey. His family described him as a dedicated and great father.
Following an investigation by the New York City Police Department, a suspect was identified and apprehended. On July 7, 2021, police arrested 35-year-old Kenny James. He was subsequently charged with murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment in connection with the death of Allen Steven Urena. Records indicated that James had a criminal history with prior arrests.
