In the summer of 2022, a sense of shock and grief spread through a Bronx community following the tragic death of Nelson Mattocks. A 49-year-old man, Mattocks was a dedicated employee of the New York City Housing Authority. His life was abruptly cut short on August 19, 2022, when he was fatally shot in the face. The incident occurred behind the Saint Mary's Park NYCHA development, the very place where he worked, leaving his colleagues and the residents he served in mourning.
