Anthony Hill Jr., 37, male, was shot in northwest Charlotte on the night of October 14, 2025, and later died from his injuries. Officers were dispatched at approximately 10:46 p.m. to the 100 block of North Crigler Street in the Freedom Division after a report of an assault with a deadly weapon. They found Hill suffering from a gunshot wound; MEDIC transported him to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His next of kin were notified as homicide detectives and crime scene personnel processed the scene and began collecting evidence.
In the days that followed, detectives worked the case and identified a suspect. On Friday, October 17, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested 45-year-old Demaro McDowell. After an interview at the Law Enforcement Center, McDowell was booked into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Authorities noted the investigation remains active and asked anyone with information to reference report number 20251014-2246-05.
Local outlets reported that officers initially responded around 10:45 p.m., and publicly confirmed both Hill's identity and McDowell's arrest and charges. Police have not released additional details about a motive or the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and no other suspects have been announced.
