Connie Patrick, a 72-year-old White female, was killed in the early hours of October 17, 2025, during a mass shooting inside a home on Taos Drive in the Cedar Creek Cove subdivision of Mabank, Texas. Deputies with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. and found multiple victims. Three people were ultimately pronounced dead: Patrick, 72, Kimberly Simpson, 51, and Ronny Hammonds, 57.
Two additional victims, identified as Henry Hopgood, 70, and Colton Reid, 24, were transported to UT Health Tyler, with Hopgood listed in critical condition and Reid in stable condition.
Investigators said Simpson and Patrick died of multiple gunshot wounds. Hammonds suffered a combination of injuries — a gunshot wound, blunt force trauma, and multiple stab wounds — indicating a chaotic and violent attack before the gunfire subsided. The concentrated violence inside the residence, coupled with the variety of wounds, painted a grim scene for first responders who worked to triage the surviving victims and confirm the deaths at the location and later at the hospital.
Authorities quickly identified a suspect: 29-year-old Christopher Kyle Reid Jr. of Hubbard. According to the sheriff’s office, Reid fled the Mabank scene and, a short time later, drove a minivan into the entrance of a Buc-ee’s store in Ennis. After crashing, he shot himself and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. As of the most recent official updates, law enforcement described the case as an ongoing triple-homicide investigation; Reid remained hospitalized following his self-inflicted wound. No other arrests were announced, and officials did not indicate that additional suspects were being sought.
