mother, Sarah Henderson, was responsible for their murders. Sarah Henderson was charged with capital murder for the deaths of her daughters. Reports indicated that Sarah had a history of involvement with Child Protective Services due to allegations of abuse involving an older child years before the murders. In 2010, CPS investigated Sarah for not providing appropriate supervision, which resulted in the child being hospitalized for ingesting a blood thinner medication. Despite these concerns, CPS did not remove the child from her care at that time.
On the night of the murders, Sarah's husband called 911, reporting that his wife was acting strangely and "freaking out like somebody's out to get her." A sheriff's deputy responded to the call but left after the Hendersons stated they did not need assistance. Less than three hours later, Kenlie and Kaylee were killed. Sarah Henderson later confessed to the murders, stating that she had planned to kill her daughters and attempted to kill her husband as well.
