In the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the quiet of a Rome, Georgia neighborhood was shattered by a grim discovery. The body of 18-year-old Adam Taylor Hernandez was found lying in the middle of Woodcreek Way just before 5:30 a.m. The young man had sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a couple of hours later, with his mother, Candy Coxaj, by his side.
An investigation into his death was immediately launched as a homicide.
Adam, who had just celebrated his eighteenth birthday the month prior, was described by his mother as having been shot in the back of the head and robbed of his belongings. She shared the heartbreaking detail that her son was acquainted with the individuals believed to be responsible for his death, stating, 'They were supposed to have been friends with him...But they left him there to die, alone.' The investigation led to the arrest of two suspects: 20-year-old Brandon Charles Griffin and 18-year-old Kimora Heath.
A third suspect, Treveonsay Burge, remains at large and is considered dangerous by law enforcement. As the search for Burge continues, with authorities believing he may be in the Atlanta area, Adam's mother has made public pleas for his capture so he can face the charges in court. The tragic event prompted a precautionary lockdown at nearby Main Elementary School on the morning of the discovery, though all students and staff remained safe inside the building.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 4, 2007, Adam was remembered for his sweet smile that could light up a room. He was known as a happy, loving, and helpful individual who was quick to lend a hand to anyone in need. He had a passion for music, having sung in the school chorus and later creating his own music. His hobbies included gaming with his siblings, spending time with friends, and working with his hands, which led him to train with the Home Builders Association, where he was learning carpentry, painting, and home improvement.
