In the quiet roads of Buckingham County, Virginia, a violent encounter led to the untimely death of Scott Lee Randall, a 45-year-old White male from the Dillwyn area. On the afternoon of Monday, May 12, 2025, deputies were dispatched to the 2300 block of Pattie Road shortly before 1 p.m. following a report of a shooting. There, they discovered a truck that had veered off the road and crashed into the woods.
Inside the vehicle was Randall, suffering from a single gunshot wound to his head.
First responders administered aid at the scene, and Randall was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. For a week, he remained on life support as investigators processed the scene of the crash and shooting. Despite medical efforts, Scott Lee Randall succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, after he was removed from life support.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to an arrest. Vincent Rose, a 41-year-old from Nelson County, was taken into custody in connection with the attack. Initially, Rose faced charges of aggravated malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and multiple firearms offenses, including possession of a firearm by a nonviolent felon. He was held without bond at the Piedmont Regional Jail.
Following Randall's death, the case progressed to a homicide investigation. The charges against Vincent Rose were subsequently upgraded, and he was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Scott Lee Randall. The Buckingham County Sheriff's Office continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and sought additional information from the public.
