Jimmy Arevalo, a 32-year-old male, was fatally shot just after midnight on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, while working outside a convenience store on Calumet Street in Houston. According to police, he had been power washing restaurant equipment alone when a gray Toyota Tundra pulled into the lot; after a brief exchange, the driver got out and opened fire. Arevalo was struck in the upper body and died at the scene, later found by his brother who was working inside.
The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. at 2528 Calumet Street, east of Highway 288 and near Hermann Park.
Investigators identified the suspected gunman as 38-year-old Omar Marzouk. He was initially charged and wanted on July 31, and by August 1 Houston police announced he had been arrested and charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court. Early reporting and court appearances placed his bond at $500,000.
Multiple outlets, citing prosecutors and court documents, described a dispute over noise from the pressure washer as a possible motive. Witness statements indicated the shooter first fired a warning shot into the air before fatally shooting Arevalo; investigators also tied a fleeing Toyota Tundra to the suspect using license plate reader data. Coverage of the bond hearing noted additional allegations from prosecutors about post-incident conduct that, they argued, suggested an attempt to flee.
Police and local media reported that surveillance video of the parking lot exists but did not capture audio, leaving the exact words exchanged between the men unclear. The case is being pursued in coordination with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
