In the summer of 2025, the life of 17-year-old Xavion Drake was tragically cut short. On June 20, 2025, in Midlothian, Virginia, Drake and his close friend, 17-year-old Elijah Brown, were fatally shot at the Creek Point apartment complex. Drake, a resident of Henrico, and Brown were known to be inseparable friends who attended different high schools.
Xavion, born on November 3, 2007, in Washington, D.C., was remembered as a vibrant and compassionate young man who had a gift for bringing
people together. Raised by a devoted single mother, he was known for his infectious smile, love of music, and dancing. He was an active member of Speaking Spirit Ministries, where he was a cherished part of his church family. Those who knew him described him as a person who could light up any room and make others feel seen and loved. He enjoyed writing music and rapping, and his songs now serve as a special memory for his loved ones.
In the wake of the shooting, the community gathered for a prayer vigil to honor the lives of the two teenagers. Family and friends, dressed in orange and white, shared cherished memories of Xavion and Elijah. Xavion's mother, overwhelmed with grief, made a heartfelt plea to the community to end gun violence.
An arrest was made in connection with the double homicide. Eighteen-year-old Richard Lamb of Chesterfield was taken into custody and charged with two counts of murder. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing.
