In the quiet community of Covesville, Virginia, a welfare check on September 24, 2025, led to a grim discovery at a home on Windward Cove Road. Officers from the Albemarle County Police Department entered the residence to find 76-year-old Frances Hooper-Miller and 77-year-old Dennis Miller deceased inside. Both had sustained gunshot wounds.
Based on their preliminary investigation, detectives have described the case as a suspicious death investigation but have indicated that they believe
it was an isolated incident. Authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the deaths of Hooper-Miller and Miller. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have asked that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers.
Frances Hooper-Miller, known as Fran to her loved ones, was a respected figure in the public transit industry, having worked for several major transportation authorities throughout her career. She was a strong advocate for women in her field. In her personal life, she found joy in her home on Fan Mountain, her church community at Cove Church, and her marriage to Dennis Miller. In the years leading up to her death, she had been experiencing dementia.
