On the morning of December 22, 2011, Bonnie Clarke Marrow, a 56-year-old African-American female, was found unresponsive in her vehicle in the Church Hill area of Richmond, Virginia. The car was still running when officers arrived at the 1100 block of North 25th Street. It was discovered that Marrow had sustained a gunshot wound. Despite her critical injuries, she had managed to drive some distance before losing control of her vehicle. She was transported to VCU Medical Center, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation into her death revealed that she was likely shot somewhere near Nine Mile Road and Mechanicsville Turnpike between 7:15 and 7:20 a.m. At the time of the incident, Marrow, a dedicated registered nurse, was on her way to her job at the VCU Medical Center. It is believed that she may have visited the gravesite of her son, Robert Cox Jr., at Oakwood Cemetery that morning. Tragically, her son had also been a victim of an unsolved homicide just a year and a half prior to her death.
Despite investigations by the Richmond Police Department, the circumstances surrounding Bonnie Marrow's murder remain a mystery. Authorities explored various motives, including the possibility of a robbery or carjacking attempt, or that she was struck by a stray bullet. However, no suspects have ever been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with her murder. Her case, like her son's, remains unsolved, leaving her family and community still seeking justice and closure.
