A burst of gunfire drew Jackson police to the 200 block of Roosevelt Parkway just after 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025. There they found Sherman Mays, 22, male, gravely wounded. Emergency Medical Services rushed him to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. Detectives said early signs pointed to a targeted attack, not a random encounter, and asked witnesses to come forward.
